When a hurricane slammed into Amish Paradise, a song was born in a house in Thunder in Paradise
Posted August 24, 2018 07:50:32A hurricane slammed through Amish paradise in the Catskills of New York, slamming into a home, and a song, as well.
For most Amish people, it’s the end of the year.
But in Thunder In Paradise, the lyrics are written in 2016, before the storm struck, and recorded during the year after.
“It was the end-of-the-year song,” the group said in a statement.
“The idea came from an Amish woman who was in tears and lost her home.
The song is about the emotional and spiritual journey we’ve all gone through and how we live our lives now.”
Thunder In Paradise was written by Joe Staley, who lives in the Amish village of Amishland, and has been writing it since the storm hit.
Staley wrote it as a personal challenge, writing the lyrics to the song as he waited in a storm shelter, listening to the news of the storm.
“When you hear the words ‘storm shelter’, it’s like ‘Oh my god, this is the last thing we will see before we go,'” Staley told Buzzfeed.
“It’s like being trapped in a hurricane and you don’t know how long it’s going to last.
You don’t have a plan.
You’re just floating through.””
The song is very powerful and emotional, but it’s also very poetic,” he added.
“Because of that it’s very personal.”
Staley wrote the lyrics while in a state of shock, and the song has been performed to the tune of “Storm Shelter,” a popular song by country singer Sam Cooke.
“Storm Shelter” is about a hurricane, and Staley sang, “I feel like a storm.”
Thunder in Paradise, who have performed the song before, said they decided to use the lyrics as a way to give the community some closure after the storm and to share the experience.
“We didn’t really have any idea that it would be a popular hit,” Staley said.
“There was a lot of fear that the Amishes wouldn’t take the song seriously.
We wanted to give them some peace of mind.
We really didn’t expect that we would be able to do that.”
