Why are there so many parrots?
The bird has been on the endangered species list since its last sighting in 1979.
The last time it was seen was in 2012 when it was on display at the Smithsonian.
“Its not the species it was originally,” said the Smithsonian’s Stephen H. G. Smith.
“It was the breeding stock.”
The bird is the first bird to have a species that has been listed on the Endangered Species List in the United States since it was added in 1967, according to the National Audubon Society.
The Bird Watch website lists over 50 species of parrots, including the red-crowned parrot, black-eyed parrot and yellow-throated parrot.
